For a week, the Municipal Cinema of Malesco hosted short films from diverse countries, cultures, and imaginations. Over 900 spectators attended the screenings of the twenty-sixth edition of Malescorto, which concluded with the awards ceremony for the works competing in the 2026 Official Selection. This figure confirms audience participation, but also the ability of short films to condense complex narratives into a few minutes, without the need for dilation.

The 2026 “Acqua Vigezzo” Malescorto Grand Prix , offered by Vigezzo SRL , was

assigned to Adios (Goodbye) by Spanish directors Álvaro G. Company and Mario Hernández. At the heart of the film are two women sitting at the same table, united by dialogue but separated by a split screen; a choice that goes beyond a simple visual device, as it makes the distance between the protagonists concrete and transforms a place usually associated with encounters into a space of restrained conflict.

Sulaimani by Vinnie Ann Bose

In Sulaimani Vinnie Ann Bose won the 2026 "TrasmettereArchitettura" Award ,

Supported by the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects, and Conservationists of the Provinces of Novara and VCO . In the short film, shot in France and India using stop-motion techniques, the city accompanies the adventures of two Indian girls far from their hometowns; buildings and urban landscapes serve not only as backdrops, but also as part of the narrative of uprooting, distance, and the possibility of rebuilding a sense of belonging elsewhere.

The 2026 "Associazione Musei dell'Ossola" Award , promoted by the same association as part of the Interreg Di-segnare project, was awarded to L'horizon du bout du nez (The horizon from the top of the nose) by French director Étienne Bonnet. Through a 2D watercolor-pencil animated short, the film begins with myopia, a private and seemingly marginal condition, to reflect on the way each of us observes reality: each gaze brings some things into focus and inevitably leaves others marginalized.

More than 600 spectators participated in the vote for the Award of the Public “Best Swiss Villages” 2026 , offered by the association The Most Beautiful Villages of the Switzerland. With a rating of 3.7 out of 4, the recognition was awarded to América by the Peruvian director Javier Augusto Arias-Stella. The jury's special mention went to the British short film A friend of Dorothy by Lee Knight, appreciated for the care of the photography, the scenography and the acting, as well as for the reference to Judy Garland and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.

The Palmarès also includes the awards given as part of the initiatives of Malescorto Spin-Off. During the MaleScuola project, students from local schools awarded the MalesKids Award 2026 to Leptir (Butterfly) by Suncana Brkulj, the Award MaleSchool 2026 to Astral by Judith Ordonneau and the MalesCollege Award 2026 to Reven, created by a collective of young French authors. As part of Insubria in Corto 2026, the award was given to the short film Inhale by Swiss director Melana Sokhadze. The twenty-sixth edition thus closes with a broad participation and a group of very different works, united by the search for a precise form to tell relationships, identities, movements, and different ways of looking at the world. The last one finished screening, the directors' work remains, the interaction with the audience and a new chapter in the history of a festival that for over twenty-five years has brought short films to the heart of the Valle Vigezzo.
